i love you, i’m sorry

i love you, i’m sorry (2023) is a crochet installation showing a physical representation of love that is overbearing and consuming. It was made in three stages, each one adding to the idea of obsessive love. The piece grows from a tightly crocheted sphere that spreads out in a vine-like manner. As the crochet sphere expands, the stitches get looser, with holes and ragged edges, to give it an organic and almost living feeling. The crochet sphere expands into a dome-like structure, made out of a hoop skirt. From the top, a crochet piece tightly woven like the sphere drapes over the dome. Both sides are connected, leaving the viewer to question which one is the giver and the receiver - they both feed into each other, much like love and obsession. On the edge of the hoop skirt, colorful glass beads are crocheted into an uneven edge of red yarn. It is further adorned with pearl-like rhinestones, representing the beauty of love that is still there, regardless of what has become of it. Still, they are covered under a layer of red tulle, as well as strands of crochet that hang from the draped piece, engulfed by the chaos of love that has become fanatic.
